The idea to start Capricorn Casuals came up while Clarence and Annabel first visited Kigombe fishing village in Tanzania in 2003. Visitors to the beach resorts in the area were discussing the lack of shops selling casual tropical clothing.
Annabel recalled that a similar situation in Belize had led to the development of an extremely successful clothing line, which has since been written up in many fashion magazines. Inspired by her friends Sami and Aida owners of Isla Bonita Designs in Belize, Annabel launched Capricorn Casuals in Tanzania.
Later, while looking for suitable materials in Tanzania she was incredibly fortunate to first hear about then meet Renalda Lema, who with her team weaves the most beautiful material from locally grown cotton. This wonderful homespun material is ideally suited for some of the designs at Capricorn Casuals. Other designs are made from an incredible assortment of colorful African cotton fabrics with a variety of other materials to choose from.
As we make the clothing at the boutique, guests can pick their own fabric and design, and have it stitched right there. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of every piece of clothing that is made at the boutique is donated to Kigombe village.
